Hypothetical Range of Return Calculation

Each portfolio’s expected return and volatility is derived from the return and volatility of its underlying asset classes, scaled by the appropriate portfolio weights. The volatility measure also incorporates estimates of correlation between all the underlying asset classes, where correlation measures the extent to which any two asset classes move together. Portfolio return and volatility measures are then extended from annual to multi-year periods, and the 95% confidence interval is calculated as approximately two standard deviations (volatilities) on either side of the expected return. Given estimates of return and volatility, the 95% confidence interval represents the range within which returns should lie 95% of the time.

Limitation of Use

The hypothetical Potential Range of Return bars are for illustrative purposes only and do not represent actual returns. No representation or warranty is made as to the reasonableness of the assumptions or that all assumptions used in calculating the Potential Range of Return have been stated or fully considered. We do not guarantee that the hypothetical Potential Range of Return will be similar to actual performance. Hypothetical, back-tested or simulated performances have many inherent limitations, including, but not limited to: they are designed with the benefit of hindsight, based on historical data, and do not reflect the impact that certain economic and market factors might have had on the decision-making process; this material is not representative of any particular client’s experience. Investors should not assume that they will have an investment experience similar to the hypothetical, back-tested or simulated performance shown; the back-testing of performance differs from actual account performance because the investment strategy may be adjusted at any time, for any reason and can continue to be changed until better performance results are achieved; the back-tested performance includes hypothetical results that do not reflect the deduction of advisory fees, brokerage or other commissions, and any other expenses that a client would have paid or actually paid. Please ask your financial advisor for further information regarding the limitations of hypothetical, back-tested or simulated performance measures.
