How to set up and manage two-factor authentication on ATB FX

Two-factor authentication (2FA) provides an extra layer of protection that dramatically increases the security of your ATB FX account and your personal or business information. 2FA better protects you from unauthorized access or fraud—even if hackers were able to get your username and password. With 2FA, each time you sign in, you’ll need to provide both your password and the verification code found in your smartphone authenticator app.

If you have previously logged in to ATB FX, please skip to step 7.

  1. Install an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator (iOS, Android) on your phone.
  2. On your desktop computer, log in to ATB FX using the temporary password you were given by the ATB FX team. You’ll then be presented with a QR code.
  3. On your phone, open your authenticator app.
    1. Tap the “+” button in the bottom right of Google Authenticator (or whichever button lets you add a new account).
    2. Tap Scan a QR code in Google Authenticator (or the related option in another app).
    3. Scan the QR code shown on your computer screen. You’ll then be presented with a six-digit, one-time verification code.
  4. Enter the code provided by your authenticator app into the verification code field on your computer before it expires.
    1. If it does expire, enter the newest code presented in the app.
  5. You’ll then be prompted to change your password from the temporary one you were given to a new one of your own. ATB FX passwords must have at least:
    1. 1 number
    2. 1 uppercase and 1 lowercase letter
    3. 1 special character
    4. and be at least 8 characters long
  6. Once you’ve created your new password, you’ll be directed to the login screen.
  7. Enter your username and password.
  8. Click login. You’ll be asked to provide a verification code.
  9. Open your authenticator app.
  10. Look for the code provided for Alberta Treasury Branches (ATBFX). Enter this code into the verification code field on your computer before it expires.
    1. If it does expire, enter the newest code presented in the app.
  11. Click Submit.
  12. You’re all done!
