Unemployment rate in Alberta unchanged in November

Both full-time and part-time employment in November were above the pre-pandemic levels set in February 2020

A rise in part-time work pushed total employment in Alberta up by 0.7% in November*. The number of part-time jobs increased by 19,400 (+4.7%) while full-time jobs decreased by 3,800 (-0.2%) for a net increase of 15,400. 

Despite the increase in total employment, Alberta’s unemployment rate stayed at 7.6% with a rise in the number of Albertans participating in the labour force offsetting the number of new jobs.

Both full-time and part-time employment in November were above the pre-pandemic levels set in February 2020.

Nationally, total employment increased by 0.8% (153,700) and the unemployment rate went from 6.7% to 6.0%.

The number of jobs in the country was above the pre-pandemic level for the third month in a row.

*November Labour Force Survey data reflect labour market conditions during the week of November 7 to 13.
