Do I need to do anything for these new email notifications?
No action is needed by customers to set up new Interac e-Transfer email notifications.

They can continue to send and receive funds via Interac e-Transfer as they have previously.

 

Will there be any changes to how I send or receive funds?
None of your Interac e-Transfer settings in your online banking or mobile banking app, such as Contacts and Autodeposit registration, will be impacted. You can continue to use Interac e-Transfer to send and receive funds as before.

 

Will the new email notifications affect my Autodeposit registration?
No, your Autodeposit registration will remain the same. Interac is only refreshing the design look and feel of the email notifications at this time.

 

When will I start receiving the new notifications?
Interac is planning to launch the new email notifications on October 22, 2024

 

What is changing with these notifications?
The subject line will now include the Interac e-Transfer amount. The email body will have a new layout containing a new feature, you now have the choice of opting out of receiving message content.

 

What is opting out and how does it work?
Clients can now opt-out of receiving messages in their email notification. They will still receive funds from a sender that they have opted out from, but they will not see the sender-generated content (memo field or contact name)

 

How can I opt-out of receiving messages in the memo field of my Interac e-Transfer notification?
You can opt-out of receiving messages in the memo field by clicking on the link upon receipt of an Interac e-Transfer email notification. The link is located near the bottom of the email and will read “Click here to opt out of seeing messages from this contact in your Interac e-Transfer notifications.” You will be taken to the Interac e-Transfer Gateway where a confirmation page will be displayed, confirming that you have opted out. You will also receive an Interac e-Transfer notification that confirms that your preferences have been successfully updated.

 

Will I still receive funds when I have opted out of the message content?
Yes, once you have opted out of message content you will still receive the Interac e-Transfers as normal.

What to do if I don’t recognize the sender of the email notification?
If you don’t recognize the sender and you suspect that the email notification
that you have received is fraudulent or a phishing attempt, do not click on any links and forward the email to fraud@atb.com

 

How can I identify a phishing email for Interac e-Transfers?
Phishing attempts often try to trick individuals into providing personal information or login credentials by posing as legitimate entities. Make sure you always verify the sender's email address, check for spelling errors or suspicious links and avoid clicking on any attachments. If you are unsure please send an email to fraud@atb.com

Payments by Interac e-Transfer can only be sent and received through Canadian dollar (CAD) accounts, in CAD amounts.

Voila! Your part is done. The recipient will get an email confirming that the transfer has been sent, with the dollar amount and instructions for how to deposit it. If the recipient has the Autodeposit feature enabled, any money sent via Interac e-Transfer is automatically deposited directly into their bank account, without having to answer a security question. You’ll get an email once the recipient has accepted the transfer.

If the recipient hasn't accepted the transfer within 30 days, the transaction will be cancelled and the money returned to your account. Interac® will send an email reminder to the recipient automatically after 7 days and you also have the option to send up to 5 manual reminders to accept payment within the 30 day time period. Absolutely. These accounts include unlimited Interac e-Transfer transactions in their monthly fee:

Interac e-Transfer Request Money is a way to send an electronic invoice or remind someone to send you money. The person you request money from will receive an email they can respond to immediately via Interac e-Transfer. And they’ll receive request reminders if they forget.

If the recipient hasn't sent the transfer within 30 days, the request will expire. Interac will send an email reminder to the recipient automatically after 7 days and you also have the option to send up to 5 manual reminders to request payment within the 30 day time period.

You can request between $1 and $3000 per transaction and have up to 250 outstanding requests at a time. See this short video from Interac explaining how it all works.

Autodeposit links your email address to your ATB account, so all transfers sent to that address will be deposited automatically and securely into that account—no questions asked. Each time you receive funds by Interac e-Transfer through the Autodeposit feature, you'll receive an email with the sender’s name, the amount deposited, and any message the sender included.

If you have not received the Autodeposit verification email from Interac, first check your junk email folder. If you still can't find the notification, check that you have entered the email correctly in the rule, by logging back into ATB Personal web or app.

Note that, for the Autodeposit feature to work, both the sender’s and the receiver's financial institution must be capable of handling the transfer. If the sender’s financial institution hasn’t upgraded, you will still be required to answer the security question. See this short video from Interac explaining how it all works.

Money being sent to a recipient registered for Autodeposit will take the same time as a regular Interac e-Transfer transaction. Most transfers will be sent in near realtime, but there could be up to a 30-minute fraud delay based on the amount of the transfer, or if you have no history of receiving money from that sender before.

Yes. There are limits to how much you can send and receive each day, week and month. These limits are rolling limits, which means the amounts sent or received via Interac e-Transfer are combined to give the overall limit total. See here for more details.

Yes, Interac e-Transfer for Business offers account number routing—the option to receive payments using account numbers. You'll be able to receive funds directly to your ATB account number from businesses whose financial institutions support the new Interac e-Transfer for Business functionality.

To receive money to your ATB account number, you’ll be asked to provide your name, transit number, institution number and account number.

At this time, the ability to send funds directly to a bank account number is only available to businesses whose financial institutions support the new Interac e-Transfer for Business functionality.
