At ATB Financial, we never ask customers to provide personal or financial information, including passwords, card numbers, or log-in information via email. We also never send security notifications by email.

You can protect yourself from fraud by:

• Using anti-virus and anti-spyware software
• Keeping your Internet browser and operating system up to date

Protecting your password

Your ATBOnline® Internet banking password is your key to accessing your accounts. Here are some tips to keep your password safe:

• Don’t give your password to anyone—not even to your financial institution or Internet service provider.
• Choose unique, memorable passwords and commit them to memory instead of writing them down. A password that combines both letters and numbers is more secure than one with letters only.
• Don’t use passwords that represent birthdays, family names, or telephone numbers that may be easy for someone to guess.
• Don’t save passwords on your computer, on the Internet, or on software.
• Change your password regularly. We recommend every 90 days.

Using a firewall

Firewalls filter the information coming through your Internet connection and protect information stored on your computer or distributed through the Internet. Firewalls also protect your information while you are connected to the Internet.

You can restrict traffic that flows through your firewall so that only certain types of information are sent or received. Limit your exposure by granting access only to those programs or senders with whom you are familiar.

Most computers come with a firewall already installed, but you may need to configure it. Please refer to your firewall documentation for instructions.

Using anti-virus and anti-spyware software

Anti-virus software scans emails and files for viruses. It also cleans your computer and stops existing viruses from spreading. Always use up-to-date anti-virus software from a reputable vendor to prevent your files from being corrupted or lost.

Register new anti-virus software immediately, and choose to be notified automatically of product updates. Remember, new viruses are constantly being circulated.

Spyware is a type of software that displays advertisements or tracks and collects Personal Information such as user IDs, passwords, names, and addresses. Your computer can become infected with spyware through email attachments or from free content that you download from a website. This software is often installed on your computer without your consent.

Anti-spyware software can detect malicious programs on your computer and clean your machine. Always use up-to-date anti-spyware software. Register new anti-spyware software immediately, and choose to be notified automatically of product updates.

Keeping your Internet browser and operating system up-to-date

Keep your software up to date to maintain the best security. Use a licensed operating system and browser so you can download the latest updates. Most operating system and browser providers will ask to notify you automatically about product updates. We recommend that you choose to be notified.
